David Windrow has a lot of wins under his belt since becoming Nolensville's first fire chief in late 2020.

He build the town's fire department from scratch, staffing with full-time, part-time and volunteer firefighters. He won several grants for equipment, broke ground on the first fire station and purchased land for two more.

Now, he's being recognized for that work. The Tennessee Fire Chief's Association announced Monday during their annual conference that Windrow was awarded the Fire Chief of the Year Award.

"This award is the most prestigious honor the Tennessee fire service can give to a chief Officer," a statement from the town said. "It not only reflects leadership in the fire service, but also in the community. It recognizes excellence in actions and challenges neighboring Chief Officers to continue their professional growth and development."

Windrow was nominated for the award by his peers and co-workers.

"Chief Windrow has dedicated himself to improving the fire service locally and globally. His passion has been demonstrated to the members that proudly serve alongside him as he responds at all hours of the day on or off duty,” Nolensville Fire Marshal Matthew Lupo said.

Windrow began his career in 1983 and served 24 years with the Brentwood Fire and Rescue retiring as the Deputy Fire Chief before joining Nolensville.
